Asalaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

After a semester of activities directed towards increasing access to the prayer rooms for the brothers and sisters, we would like everyone to be aware of what progress has been made.

Insha’Allah from the beginning of next semester, the prayer rooms will be left open from 11-7 (extending gradually over the summer), with sisters having complete access to their room during these times. 

The brothers may be unable to use the room on some evenings during term time (i.e. after 5.30pm).  We will work to ensure this happens as infrequently as possible, and will give advance warning when it does insha’Allah. When this occurs, we will do what we can to find an alternative venue, be it a room on campus or encouraging brothers to make use of the local mosques, which are open during this time and beyond.

We are working with the College, Student Union and other faith societies to ensure there is as little conflict as possible.  This is not the final step; our goal to expand opening hours, have a Qur’an rack and display posters.  These are all goals which we will continue to work towards, via the multifaith centre user forum et cetera.

Most importantly we would like to express our gratitude to Allah (‘azza wa jal)- without Whom no good is possible.  And after that, every single brother and sister who spent their time, money and effort- be it with their du’a,  selling cakes, making banners, organising jumu’ah, printing flyers, publicizing the campaign blog or even just by being there and voting with your feet.  May Allah reward you all.

Despite initial difficulties, the staff of the College- security, CCRS, room bookings, and of course the Student Union Sabbatical team- are thanked for all their work in trying to reach an amicable solution fair to all parties.  We look forward to a productive relationship with other faith societies- both those involved in the MFC and those not.

Brothers & Sisters, a few updates with regards to the campaign, in particular with regards to the upcoming Jumu’ah:

1) Jumu’ah @ 12:15 pm in the MFC

The MFC is scheduled to be locked up at 12:30pm on Friday. However, we will commence the Jumu’ah at 12:15pm, and complete the prayer irregardless of whether security come to lock-up or not!

* Sisters are requested to attend the first Jumu’ah, since we will be unable to accomodate for them at the second Jama’ah. This is due to the venue (which will be expounded on further down).

2) Jumu’ah @ 1:05 pm in the FOYER of Queens Building

The brothers will be performing the second Jumu’ah in the Foyer of Queens Building this week. Praying out on the patio does not seem to be having the desired affect, hence we feel it is time to take it to the next level.

We remind brothers to congregate inside, making sure not to block the fire-exits.

3) Stalls

InshaAllaah, the Da’wah team will have their stall up and running during the second Jumu’ah, outside on the patio area.

They will also be distributing leaflets.

UPDATE: Sisters will also have their stalls, outside the People’s Palace, inshaAllaah.

Just an update; the brothers are still praying in the Queens Building Foyer. The timings of the salwaat are as follows:

- ‘Asr | 2:30pm

- Maghrib | (when the time starts)

Brothers are also reminded to pray at Queens irrespective of whether they can make the above timings or not.

Alhamdulillah QM Muslims made it to the front page of the QMessenger Paper in what seems, after a quick first glance, to be a balanced article. The Article should be posted up soon!!! So everyone can comment!! Grab a copy from the Coffee shop behind the library or from the student union.

QM Muslims are proud to announce the continuing of the “Praying For A Prayer Room” Demo  in the queens building reception( OUR NEW 24 Hour PRAYER ROOM) and THE BIGGEST JUMMAH YET!!

Jummah will be outside this week  but with a difference!! There will be Stalls to purchase cakes and Food for lunch to support the campaign!!

There will also be a Live filming Crew (TV Channel) for a special documentary for broadcast worldwide!!! To show the issue the Muslims are facing at QM !!

We Urge ALL Muslims to come and attend this Jummah outside!! We are aiming for 1000 people Insha’Allah!!

The Kutbah will be for both Brothers and Sisters!!! Please spread the word!!!

We have increased the amount of congregational prayers in the queens Building (If you can’t make them, don’t worry just pray in the reception of the Queens whenever you Can!!!)
